Herrnhut Chrimstmas Stars

origin

The star comes from the village of Herrnhut in Upper Lusatia, in the very east of Germany on the border with Poland and the Czech Republic. There, 300 years ago, religious refugees from the East founded the village of Herrnhut. About 160 years ago, the educators at the Herrnhut Brethren Society’s boarding school made the first stars with the children in math class. the first stars with the children in order to “promote geometric understanding”.

Geometry

The Herrnhut Star consists of 25 prongs, 17 pyramids based on squares, and 8 pyramids based on triangles. One prong is missing to leave an opening for lighting.

Designs

The large stars from the kit are self-assembled from the given pyramids. Either this is done every year anew from the previously dismantled star, or only once, if you have enough space to store the relatively large stars.
